Fylde's Election Results 2015

Election Results 2015The Parliamentary vote was counted on 7th (Thursday) evening, and the Borough Election count was on Friday 8th.

The national result defied all the polling that predicted a hung parliament and due to what seemed to be a late surge in Conservative voters, an overall single party majority was secured.

The surge was reflected in the  Fylde Parliamentary election where sitting MP Mark Menzies was re-elected and slightly increased his majority from 13,185 in 2010, to 13,224 this time. His share of the vote was down 3.1% (from 52.2 IN 2010) to 49.1 this year.

We had thought (wrongly it transpires) that his majority would be reduced by votes cast for Mike Hill and UKIP, but that did not happen - probably because of the strategy and hard work put in by Conservatives locally and nationally during the campaigning.

The result has very significant implications for Fylde. In effect, it gives a tacit endorsement for Fracking and further development of the Fylde countryside.

 FYLDE BOROUGH COUNCIL RESULTS
===============================
At Fylde, it was a night of surprises and upsets. Several able councillors were not re-elected as the Conservative party re-inforced its majority.

Our own take on the underlying reason for this is what we call the 'Nicola Sturgeon' effect.

The threat she represents to the break-up of the UK is anathema to traditional Conservative voters and we believe this threat was very successfully exploited late in the national campaign. It brought out  larger numbers of Conservative voters than had been predicted to vote in the national election and, because they were given ballot papers for Borough and Parish councils at the same time, that Conservative influence echoed through to increase the Conservative votes on those papers.
