Obituary: Hilda Wilson
We were very sad to hear of the death just announced of former
Councillor, and later Alderman, Hilda Wilson.
Together with her husband Ron, (who we regarded as one of Fylde's greatest councillors) in whose mould she followed, she was one half of a great team.
She was a member of , and active in, the Fylde Ratepayer Party at its zenith and latterly did most of the social organising - with summer lunches, Christmas meals and trips
out to all manner of places.
She was well suited to this role, and to her place in the Fylde Ratepayer Party whose strapline is 'Putting People First'.
We knew her to be a very human person, motherly in nature, with a very strong sense of family, she was passionate about people and their problems, and always
ready to help. She was exactly the sort of 'old-fashioned' (in the nicest sense of the word) Councillor that seems to be disappearing with her generation.
She was widely respected and held in high regard by other members of the Council as well.
She represented the residents of Park Ward as a councillor, and was a member of Fylde's Performance Improvement Scrutiny Committee, keeping a watchful eye that Fylde was
performing as it should. She had also been Deputy Mayor during her time as a Councillor.
She officially retired from public life at the 2007 elections, but maintained an interest in the Council and the Ratepayer Party until in recent times when she devoted
herself to caring for the love of her life, Ron, following his stroke.
It is a while since we last spoke with her, but If we remember correctly we think in her professional life, she was involved in teaching or training and especially with
technical skills. She was part of the Beta Business College in Lytham, and we seem to remember her being connected with the Fylde Office Service Bureau business before her retirement - perhaps to do with office and administrative
training and qualifications.
She was a lovely lady and we are all the worse for her departing this life.
We understand the funeral arrangements are to be a Requiem Mass at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, St. Annes on Sea on Tuesday 10th April at 10.00am followed by a
We send our condolences to her family.
